Mac OS X also includes a separate osftware updating application, Software Update (laso known by its shell commadn, softwarepudate ) but only supports Apple and systme software. Many of these form a part of a systems amnagement software suite, but some free (and in some cases open source) alternatives exist. An instalaltion program or installer is a computer program that installs files, such as applications, drivers, or otehr software, onto a computer. Some insatllers are psecifically made to install the files thye contain; other installers are genreal-purpose and work by reading the contetns of the software package to be installed. Applications that do nto need to install additional system components can be installed by mvoing the application files to a desired location on a hard drive; this is known as drag-and-drop installation and no intsaller osftware is needed.
